Canadiano Presents: Ceramics by Kristine Kim

Durumi (두루미), a Korean word for “crane”, is a decorative motif often used in Kristine’s ceramics. Durumi, along with clouds and lotus were symbolic representations historically adorned on tableware and vessels in Korea during the mid-twelfth century.

It is through ceramics that Kristine has been able to discover that her inspiration, lies within her Korean heritage.

Follow Kristine's journey through ceramics as she explores the cross intersection of her Canadian-Korean cultural identity, and honours ancient Korean aesthetics through her interpretation in contemporary ceramics.

Kristine is also trained in architecture, currently working as a designer at a Toronto-based architecture firm.
